Meet Janet R. Collins the author of: On the Arctic Frontier - Ernest Leffingwell's Polar Explorations and Legacy
Driven young geologist Ernest deKoven Leffingwell helped determine the edge of the Arctic’s continental shelf in 1906. With assistance from his Inupiaq neighbors, he pioneered research in ground ice, observed birds, collected wildlife specimens, and surveyed and mapped along Alaska’s northeastern coast and inland in what is now the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. His groundbreaking work continues to inform scientists and scholars today.
