Writer, Poet, Publisher David D. Horowitz hosts an Author Event Network Event at BookTree with 7 authors plus an open mic.

AEN Authors who will be reading and signing their books include: Allan Batchelder, Julie L. Brown, Rick Fordyce, David D. Horowitz, Jeanne Matthews & Steven Scribner with special guest - author Christopher J. Jarmick.  

The Kirkland Umbrella Frings Festival is created, curated and brought to you by the Kirkland Arts Center (9/25-9/27/2026).

Bios: 

 Allan Batchelder is a professional actor, educator, writer and former stand-up comedian. He completed his epic five-book series, Immortal Treachery, then released This Thing of Darkness, (historical fiction novel) that is equal parts horror and fantasy. His most recent novel is Goat, A Musing Whimsy, about a man who's been transformed into a goat and the ridiculous conspiracy responsible. Allan lives in Seattle with his wife, son and three cats.

 Julie L. Brown (J. L. Brown) is the author of Bend, Don’t Break; No One Will Save Us; and the Jade Harrington thriller series. She has won an IPPY Gold Medal and Eric Hoffer Award and was shortlisted for the Eric Hoffer Grand Prize. Julie earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine. She resides with her family in Seattle.

Rick Fordyce grew up in north Seattle near Mathews Beach as a third-generation Washingtonian. He has published three novels, three short-story collections, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Three of his essays have appeared in the Seattle Times. He lives in Seattle and on Cape Cod.

David D. Horowitz founded and manages Rose Alley Press. His latest poetry collection, from Rose Alley Press, is Slow Clouds over Rush Hour. He recently edited Purr and Yowl, a cat-themed poetry anthology published by World Enough Writers. His poems have been published in many journals and anthologies, including The Lyric, Raven Chronicles, Terrain.org, and Coffee Poems, and his essays regularly appear in Exterminating Angel. He lives in Seattle, writes, edits, organizes & promotes readings  and is a founder of Western Washington Poets Network . Org .

Christopher J. Jarmick has owned and operated BookTree Kirkland Washington’s only independent bookstore for the last 10 years. His latest book is the just published STIR a poetry collection from World Enough Writers; previous books include Not Aloud from Moon Path Press, Ignition and the mystery-thriller, The Glass Cocoon. His essays, poetry, and more have been published in anthologies, literary journals and online.  He has organized and hosted writer panels, workshops, readings and open mics for over 25 years in the Pacific Northwest and is one of the founders of the Western Washington Poets Network. Jeanne Matthews is the writer of 2 mystery series: The Dinah Pelerin & The Garnick & Paschal series. Jeanne lives in Renton, Wa. with her husband and a Norwich terrier named Reacher. She enjoys long walks, people, books that make her laugh, and vintage rock ’n roll. The Dinah Pelerin mystery books were inspired by her love of travel. The Garnick & Paschal mysteries were inspired by Jeanne’s love of American history and her retrospective anger at the hardships and discrimination women of the 19th Century faced. Detective Quinn Paschal defies the prejudice against women who dare to work outside the home, let alone in a profession so contrary to the Cult of Domesticity.

Steven Scribner: Teacher, writer, amateur musician, part-time blogger and full-time nerd, currently living in the tree-y suburbs north of Seattle. He is the author of numerous books several in the Tond series 4 in the original series and 2 so far  in the Tond followup series: The Madstones Tetralogy  2023’s Fronds a collection of short stories, flash fiction, magical realism and some poetry.  Steve enjoys writing and reading sci-fi and fantasy (has been working on his TOND series of books for nearly fifty years). “There's a lot of art, history, and music in my books," he says.
